Expansion of the Joban Line to Tomioka Station
On 21 October, another station on the Joban Line has reopened. Tomioka Station was destroyed by the tsunami caused by
the Great East Japan Earthquake and services were suspended for over six and a half years since then as it was part of the
nuclear disaster evacuation order zone. However, now that the evacuation order has been lifted from nearly all of Tomioka
Town as of 1 April earlier this year, the station has now been rebuilt and resumed services.
This means train commuters from Iwaki can now travel all the way to Tomioka without transferring to a shuttle bus. There
are now a total of 22 train services a day arriving and departing from Tomioka Station.
There are now only three stations left between Tomioka and Namie that are still inaccessible due to the exclusion zone:
Yonomori, Ono and Futaba stations. The entire Joban Line is expected to be reconnected by the end of fiscal year 2019.
Replacement bus service timetable: Tomioka-Namie/Haranomachi* stations

Iwaki Info
Using the emergency number (119) correctly
119 is the emergency number in Japan for ambulance and fire services.
Recently, some people have been using the emergency 119 number to inquire about which hospitals are open on
weekends/public holidays or for disaster information.
These non-emergency phone calls take time away from responding to actual emergency calls and make it difficult for
emergency services to arrive on the scene as quickly as possible.
Only call 119 when there is an actual emergency.
If you need to know about hospitals open on weekends/public holidays or disaster information, inquire with one of the
following phone numbers instead.
Fire services telephone guide: TEL: 23-0119
Fire service headquarters: TEL: 22-0123
